How far can your phone case take you? Though smartphones and other devices such as the iPhone getting stronger and more durable every year with super resilient materials, it's important to have a back-up plan in case of any accidents. That's where phone cases come in: providing protection from water, debris, impact, and other dangers, phone cases are like an extra insurance policy for your phone's safety. But not all cases are created equal. Some are excessively chunky, and some don't provide enough protection at all. You ideally want to find a case that provides extreme protection while not getting in your way.

At CES 2019, CNET hosted their yearly drop test competition. Different cases housing iPhone XRs were dropped for different heights, from 4 feet to 10 feet all the way to 20 feet. While all cases indeed protected the phone, the Catalyst Impact Case for iPhone XR stood out. As so well put by iMore from their take of the event, This case was not only the slimmest in the competition, it was also that only case without a screen protector. Regardless, the case withstood not only conventional face-first drops, but also a steel ball bearing dropped from 4 feet. Quite an amazing feat for something so minimal! Check out Catalyst's highlight reel of the event below!

The final challenge was a 20 foot impact from the ball bearing. Click here to view the full challenge from CNET. SPOILER ALERT: none of the cases survived the final challenge.
